HOPE THROUGH BREAKTHROUGH THERAPIES & INNOVATIVE TREATMENTS

Welcome to newest addition to the Lakes Center Mental Health Network - Lakes Interventional Therapies Center (LITC). LITC is where we offer the newest and most cutting-edge treatments for your best chance at recovery. Dr. Lyons has been offering cutting edge treatments for over 20 years including, VNS, TMS, Genesight, SPRAVATO and now the new offerings listed below. Each person is unique and some treatments are more effective for certain people. We believe that everyone should have access to a variety of treatment options best suited for them.
What are Interventional Psychiatric Therapies?
Interventional psychiatry can bring hope to patients that have had limited success with traditional medication and psychotherapy. So far, we have evaluated and adopted four new techniques: Prism Suite, Evoke System, Flow Neuroscience, and Enhanced Spravato. All of these have a proven track record, but are very limited in availability in the U.S.

We are excited to offer these and future novel treatments. Many new psychoactive compounds and treatments will be approved in the next decade so it is a very exciting time in mental health. We continue to offer the first in this group, Spravato, in our Lakes Depression Center. This has made Dr. Lyons a national, not just local, leader in interventional treatment.
PRISM EEG THERAPY FOR PTSD AND DEPRESSION
Prism Suite is a promising new treatment that utilizes learning from functional MRIs of the brain to create an EEG map that we can use to provide neurofeedback to help treat challenging cases of PTSD and depression.
Prism self-neuromodulation helps patients learn to regulate brain activity associated with their mental health condition within a clinic setting (without costly MRI equipment). Patients gain practical skills to help navigate the challenges of their daily lives.

Each 45-minute session involves the patient interacting through a guided computer animated simulation while wearing an EEG cap that measures real time brain activity. The patients focus on a mental strategy from their personal experience to elicit a response from the animation. Prism does not require medication before or during treatment.
It can be added to your current treatment or used alone. Prism sessions and their effectiveness are non-trauma based, so patients will not be required to relive or trigger negative memories.
-
PTSD: The treatment seeks to lower the activity level of the biomarker in the amygdala (the primal “fight or flight” part of the brain) to help manage PTSD. Studies have shown that 67% of patients demonstrated symptom improvement (including sleep) upon completing 15 sessions.
-
Depression-related Anhedonia: TThe treatment utilizes positive reinforcement to upregulate and activate the joy and motivation biomarkers. Over 75% of patients reported meaningful improvement, with 85% patient satisfaction after completing 10-15 sessions.
Lakes Center is proud to the first and only provider in Michigan for this innovative treatment for PTSD and Depression.

Prism treatments are not covered by insurance at this time.
The Firefly Evoke EEG System is a brain health assessment. It is a specialized EEG exam that can provide a snapshot of your brain’s functioning and provide diagnostic information that can help with treatment plans, including preventative measures. A regular EEG normally measures and records electrical activity in the brain. This system pairs your personal EEG readings and evoked brain responses with hundreds of thousands of other results to provide a personalized measure of your brain function.
During this single 60-minute non-invasive session, the patient’s EEG is measured while doing simple auditory and visual tasks. This only requires a cap to be placed on the patients head while they sit comfortably and then the use of a response button at times.

A comprehensive report is generated which informs the physician and patient on brain health as well as possible diagnoses to help design tailor-made treatment options. The report includes metrics on memory, executive and attention function, word fluency, affect and sensory/motor responses.

The Evoke System is not a treatment. The test results are meant to be combined with your clinical history to aid diagnosis and to support treatment options that we or your provider offers to help increase their effectiveness. One of the strengths of this approach is that progress toward healing can be tracked scientifically over time with follow-up tests and treatment can be adjusted for optimal success.
Flow treatment involves an FDA approved prescription device that adult patients can use in the comfort of their own homes. The device fits over the patient’s head and stimulates parts of the brain in a process called transcranial direct current stimulation or tDC. It sends a very gentle and safe electrical current to the prefrontal cortex, targeting the part of the brain that helps regulate mood, sleep and motivation. The stimulation helps to “wake up” or exercise these underused neural pathways in people suffering from depression. Results have been very positive with over 57% reporting remission within 10 weeks.

Treatment is composed of multiple 30-minute treatments a week over a 10-week period and is managed by an app on your phone in concert with your prescriber. It can be used with or without antidepressant medication. It is not covered by insurance at this time. Please contact us if you would like more information.
ENHANCED SPRAVATO TREATMENTS FOR TRD
Lakes Center Mental Health Network was one of the pioneers in SPRAVATO treatments, with the first dedicated center in the country. To date, we have provided over 80,000 treatments through Lakes Depression Center with life changing effectiveness for most patients.

Some patients only achieve a partial response from their Treatment Resistant Depression (TRD) so we will be offering short term Enhanced SPRAVATO Treatments to complement care for those currently receiving Spravato. We will utilize esketamine and ketamine used alongside Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
ACT is a form of psychotherapy that teaches you to accept your unwanted thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that align with your personal values. By referral only.
GOING FORWARD…
As new treatments are approved by the FDA we plan to evaluate their efficacy and may add to our offerings in this clinic. We are looking forward to using all the scientific tools available to us to work with you to determine the best treatment for your individual needs.
Help us help you become the best version of yourself!
